Thomas Campbell manuscript material : 63 items, 1809-1844

The manuscript material by Thomas Campbell in the Pforzheimer Collection consists of writings and correspondence. The writings include: an incomplete draft of his Life of Petrarch ; a holograph poem, "Verses on a Fan," written for Lord Byron's mistress, Teresa Guiccioli ; and laundry and expense lists. The bulk of the correspondence is from 1840-1841, and discusses publishing matters, family issues, and his efforts toward the liberation of Poland. Correspondents include: Richard Bentley, publisher ; the Rev. William Harness, literary scholar ; John Murray, publisher ; and over two dozen others.
